Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of The Parlotones’ new wine – Giant Mistake.
Yes – you heard me right – The Parlotones have released a wine.

It was a great event held at a lavish venue (Cape Grace) and in my eyes was a great success.
Not only was the wine fantastic but getting to see the Parlotones in such an intimate venue was brilliant – their live performance delivers on so many levels.
I think that the partnership between one of South Africa’s premier bands, an ‘indie’ wine maker and a large corporate retailer shows some sort of forward thinking aptitude – a willingness to embrace innovation and try different things in an otherwise rather bland South African wine marketing space.
So hats off to The Parlotones, Pieter Walser from BlankBottle and Alan “The Godfather” Mullins of Woolworths for embracing this idea and actually bringing it to life.
The wine, by evidence of the copious amounts consumed at the launch, is a Cape blend that rocks and is highly drinkable.

A brooding and sensuous nose that leads you in like a catchy riff. Chewy tannins that act as the drum and base and a mouth watering ‘guitar solo’ finish that will send you to nirvana!
You can take it to a Kirstenbosch concert, philosophise over it at a dinner party or enjoy at a braai with friends – it’s that kind of wine.
I’m sure its going to be a hit and the ‘devilishly gorgeous’ Giant Mistake wine will be available in selected Woolworths stores as from 28 September 2009. The wine will retail at R79.00 per bottle.
