Im Hinterhofkabuff 2012
ELGIN Riesling 2012 The StoryThe HINTERHOFKABUFF 2012 (named after the name the German magazine Der Stern gave my run down old shack like office, it literally means back yard shack).
This wine represents a rocky outcrop in the Elgin valley. 100% Weisser Riesling, this wine decided to stop its natural fermentation process with a left over/residual sugar of 12grams per liter. To give you an idea a dry wine has a sugar of about 1.5 to 5 grams per liter. So the wine has a sweet tendency but it’s not a sweet wine as such. It was picked ripe and naturally fermented in old French oak casks. Aged for 6 months and bottled. This is not your typical German style Riesling, but then again this is not Germany. This is hot and sunny South Africa. This wine decided to make itself and I had no role in playing when it came to the style. Weird for a Riesling, I agree but awesome texture. Enjoy it.
